Benjamin Martin Mayo

June 1, 1928 — April 16, 2018

Benjamin (Albert) Martin Mayo, 89, passed away peacefully April 16th, 2018 at his home in Bentonville, AR surrounded by his loved ones.  Ben was born June 1st, 1928 on a farm east of Springdale, AR to Oscar S. and Fannie Wilson Mayo.

A native to Northwest Arkansas, Ben met his loving wife, EvaLena Reder Mayo, in downtown Springdale, AR and they were married for 71 faithful years. He committed 56 years of his life mastering the lumber business, the last 26 years of which he was the owner of Mayo Building Supply in downtown Bentonville, AR. He was the president of the Mid-America Lumbermen Association, in 1992 and 1993. Ben was a 50-year member of the Bentonville Masonic Lodge #56, serving as master of the lodge in 1987 and famously was a top seller of tickets to their pancake breakfast events which funded multiple high school graduate scholarships.  Ben loved fishing trips to Guerra, Mexico and bird hunting in Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas and Texas, with his close friends.  He was a faithful member of the First Christian Church of Rogers.

Ben was preceded in death by parents Oscar and Fannie Mayo; three sisters Ruth Bridges, Mildred Garner and Vivian Blakely; four brothers Ova (Cub) Mayo, Oda Mayo, Dale Mayo and Carlos Mayo; one son Charles B. Mayo I and one daughter Peggy Mayo. 

He is survived by his loving wife, EvaLena Reder Mayo, one son George Mayo and wife Sandy of Neosho, MO; five grandchildren Charles B. Mayo II and wife Megan of Centerton, AR, Jeremy Mayo of Joplin, MO, Sarah Hegi and husband Matthew of Springdale, AR, Malinda Trivitt and husband Chris of Lowell, AR, Garry Ward of Lowell, AR; one sister Dorothy White of Springdale, AR and ten great grandchildren. 

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, APRIL 28, 2018 at First Christian Church of Rogers, officiated by Pastor, Ronny Nowell.   

The family would like to thank his dedicated caregivers and the nurses of Circle of Life Hospice for their care over the last few months of his life.
