Dennis N. Berg, age 84, of Bella Vista, AR, passed away on January 30, 2023, surrounded by his family. Dennis was born on March 17, 1938, in rural Jewell county, Kansas. He was the son of the late Evan Berg and Velma (Neilsen) Berg.
Dennis grew up in Mankato, KS, graduated from Mankato High School, lettering in football, basketball and track. He continued his love of sports and was an avid fan for the KC Chiefs and college basketball. He worked for the state of Kansas, then met and married the love of his life, Lois “Jean” Henningsen on September 24, 1960.
Dennis and his wife Jean lived in Concordia, KS from 1960-1966 and then moved to Topeka, KS. where he worked as a meat cutter for 40 years, until his retirement in 2000, at which time he and his wife enjoyed living their golden years in Bella Vista, Arkansas.
Dennis was a member of the St. Bernard Catholic Church in Bella Vista, AR. He was a dedicated volunteer of Eucharist Adoration for decades, before, and in retirement. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Throughout his life, he was a kind and gentle man. Often quiet and reserved, people sought him out for his insightful commentary, friendship, and witty sense of humor. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and, he enjoyed nature and solitude, being outdoors watching a sunrise or sunset, watching birds. He loved to travel the national parks, especially the mountains. He loved golf, he loved animals. He was a lifelong learner, inquisitive, and a voracious reader including multiple newspapers and journals.
Dennis is survived by his wife Jean; sons, John Berg and Dan Berg; daughters, Diane Sadowski, Barbara Berg and Brenda Berg-Dyck and husband Randal; four grandchildren, Beth McKenzie, Joshua Gibbons and wife Angela, Morgan Dyck and Dylan Dyck; two great grandchildren, Jaxson Gibbons and Ava Gibbons.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Doyle Berg and Arthur Berg.
A memorial Catholic Mass and celebration of life will be held at a later date in Colby, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Rd, Springdale, AR 72762.
