Ezra S. Headings, 83, passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at the Quail Ridge Living Center in West Siloam Springs, Arkansas.
Ezra was born on October 21, 1942, in Middlebury, Indiana, to the late Samuel and Magdalena (Miller) Headings.
On June 24, 1962, he married Madie Catherine Knox. She preceded him in death on January 31, 2022.
Ezra is survived by his 11 children, Hilda Horton, Raymond Headings, Flora Thomas, Joseph Headings, Darcey Brown, Albert Headings, Edna Thayer, John Headings, Vernon Headings, Jonas Headings, Esther Hertzler, brothers, Stanley, Harold, Edward, Roy, sisters, Juanita Hostetler, Elva Hostetler, 61 grandchildren, and numerous great and great great grandchildren. Ezra was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Madie, brothers, Ira and James, sisters Barbara Hostetler and Martha Ulrich, two infant daughters Saloma and Elsie, and infant grandchildren, Elizabeth, Tychicus and Brantley.
Ezra grew up farming and it remained his number one interest. Though he would have preferred to farm all his life as an occupation, he diligently worked on other jobs as needed to make a living. One of his greatest hobbies was fishing, which he didn’t have as much time for until his later years.
Many people will remember him for his genuine interest in others and their lives. Anyone anywhere was a potential new friend and worthy of his time. When he met people, he tried hard to remember their names.
Ezra was sincere in his personal walk with the Lord, and was concerned for others and their spiritual well being. His children will remember him reading the Bible and kneeling in prayer as a daily priority, memorizing and quoting a lot of Scripture. He also loved to sing, both in German and English, joining in with his hearty tenor.
On November 21, 2025 he was reinstated as a member of the Amish Mennonite church in Tampico, Illinois, where he had been a member many years ago. He leaves a shining example of being hard working, helpful and generous, always wanting to be on the giving end rather then receiving. In his last years of declining health, it was very hard on him to have to have others care for him, and not be able to serve others anymore. He will be greatly missed as a loving and caring father and grandfather, and friend to many.
