Jo Ann Hannaford

JoAnn Hannaford, born March 15, 1940, in Ottumwa, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home on January 13, 2026, in Gentry, Arkansas, surrounded by the love of her family.

JoAnn spent her early years growing up in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and throughout her life she made homes in many places, each one marking a meaningful chapter of her journey. She lived in Hartford, Wisconsin, before moving to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, where she spent many years. Later, she transitioned to Westville, Oklahoma, and ultimately settled in Gentry, Arkansas, to be near her daughter and family.

JoAnn was deeply loved and had many friends whose lives were brighter for having known her. She was known for her strength, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family, and she was a wonderful mother and grandmother who took great pride in those she loved. She found joy in life’s simple moments—time spent with family and friends, sharing stories, playing cards, working on cross-stitch, enjoying puzzle books, and creating a sense of home wherever she lived. She also enjoyed taking a run at the slots and was well known for her quick wit, candor, and sharp sense of humor—traits that endeared her to so many.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil Fleig and Mabel Johnson. JoAnn is survived by her daughter, Merri (Allan) Carmichael of Gentry, Arkansas; stepchildren, Brian (Lisa) Hannaford of Conway, Arkansas, and Teresa (Ralph) Keen of Stilwell, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; and her brother, Eugene Hanson of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. All who knew JoAnn will forever cherish her memory and carry her legacy of love, honesty, and resilience forward.

A celebration of JoAnn’s life will be held at a later date. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered love, prayers, and support during this time.
