Michael Joe Smith

Michael Joe Smith, age 75, a devoted family man and longtime resident of Colcord, Oklahoma, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2026, in Fayetteville, AR, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

Born to Homer Lee and Ina Mae (Berg) Smith on January 8, 1951. Mike’s life was defined by his unwavering commitment to those he held dear. He shared 56 beautiful years of marriage with his wife, Phillis (Holderby) Smith, whom he married on December 20, 1969. Together, they built a life centered on family, faith, and simple pleasures. Mike served with honor in the National Guard.

A true “family first” man, Mike’s greatest joy was found in the company of his loved ones.

Whether he was cheering on the Sooners alongside Phillis, spending quiet mornings hunting or fishing, playing his bass guitar or enjoying the peace of porch sitting, Mike embraced every moment. He also had a passion for hitting the open road with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Phillis Smith; his two daughters, Stefanie Johnson and husband Dave of Decatur, AR; and Crystal Shelley and husband Jeremy of Colcord, Oklahoma. Mike was a proud grandfather and great grandfather to a growing family that includes grandsons, Lance Osburn (Katsy) and their children, Ellie and Lincoln of Chickasha, Oklahoma, and Lane Osburn and daughters Alinna and Riley of Siloam Springs, Arkansas. He also leaves behind granddaughters, Lerami (Shelley)Shawver (Morgan) and their son, Mason, of Siloam Springs; and Alyson Shelley of Colcord and finance, Jessie Martinez. He also leaves behind two brothers, Ronny (Melissa) Smith of Colcord, Oklahoma and Jack (Pam) Smith of Kansas, Oklahoma, one brother-in-law, Jerry Holderby (Linda) of Tahlequah, Oklahoma and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Lee an Ina Mae Smith.

Mike’s warmth, Kindness, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
